The NEU is more than "an insurance policy," it prides itself on being an active union, led by its members. The City of Leicester district fully embraces this approach in how we operate.
Organisation
At each Annual General Meeting, The City of Leicester District members in attendance must elect the following positions: President, Secretary, Treasurer, Committee and appoint auditors. The City of Leicester committee meets monthly during the school year to organise the following District Meeting- which all members are invited to attend.
The current Committee (term of office ends 5th March 2025)
District Meetings
Our monthly District Meeting is a very useful forum to engage with a variety of educational affairs, including:
-The latest local, regional and national news.
-Union matters
-Campaigns
-Donation requests and affiliation
-Nomination of delegates to a variety of conferences/events
-Guest speakers
-Q&A
Decisions can only be made by the District at such meetings, therefore we encourage as many members as possible to attend. To support this, all of our meetings are hybrid: held in-person at our offices and online over Zoom. Every member will receive an invite, both via e-mail and text, informing them of the date of the next upcoming meeting. District Meetings are usually held on a Wednesday evening, running from 7:30-9:00pm. Those attending in-person can expect a hot meal and refreshments from 7:00pm.
Getting Involved
Even though Committee positions can only be fulfilled at the AGM, any member of the district can get involved in the City of Leicester District. Whether it is bringing proposals to the District, requesting a donation to a cause, attending a union event or becoming more active, please feel free to contact us. We would recommend attending a couple of district meetings to understand how the District operates.
